How Can An Infected Wound On The Leg Be Treated?

My husband has a sore that has yellow infection and weeping constantly on his leg. The leg is swollen and very bright red. Before the leg was red and very dark like the color of a bruise. He was seen by our PR and given antibiotics that did not work at all. Then was prescribed cephalexen 500 for 10 days. There is just a tiny bit of the swelling that has gotten better ...but his pain levels have gotten worse. Could this be more than the bacteria and low grade staph infection that he was diagnosed with?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear. Thank you for using Healthcaremagic. I read your query and I understand your concern. I think he should have his wound cleared of and use an antibiotic for 14 days. First generation cephalosporins (cefazolin, cephalothin and cephalexin), clindamycin, lincomycin and erythromycin have important therapeutic roles in less serious MSSA infections such as skin and soft tissue infections . He can use cephalexim 500mg twice daily also an antibiotic ointment topically. Hope my answer was helpful. Best regards.
