I have a felon wound on my right middle fingert that is infected. I have been bandaging it and applying neosporin and peroxide and alcohol. I leave it open at home and in the evening hours, but, I cannot sleep ,due to the throbbing pain from this . This injury happened last Friday, and started the excruciating pain and infection On Monday. I am a Diabetic, but, due to financial restrictions U have to wait until this coming Monday to get oit looked at. Meanwhile, how can I ease the pain so I can finally get some sleep?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history of wound with diabetes, my treatment advice is - 1. Don't squeeze the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like Fusiderm cream on it.
3. Take a NSAID like Ibuprofen.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like Levofloxacin, Cefadroxil and Azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
