I went to my family physician he give me another ear drop that ER said don t start. I continued the ciprodex otic until New Years day I went to the E R they give me another ear drop called polymyxin b sulfate and trimethoprim and I ask for a culture of my ear my daughter said I had a greenish color pus like discharge. Culture will take up to 5 days ..What oral antibiotic will work for my ear infection? my husband and I are planning to go to Jamaica on Sunday for a weeks cruise and I am so flustrated that I can t get an answer. I m going back to the walk-in clinic my ear feels full and I have a throbbing pain just thought I might make a suggestion for an antibiotic when I go.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As you already sent sample for culture, you can start antibiotics as per the reports. Till now, you can take tablet Amox Clav, tablet Okacet Cold, and Otobiotic ear drops locally. Also, keep your ear clean.

Don't insert ear plug, keep yourself hydrated. I will suggest you to follow up with detailed history or consult with ENT surgeon for detailed examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale
