How Can Amblyopia In A Child Be Treated?

My daughter will be going under eye surgery on 04th October 2016 The case history is : My 7.5 year old daughter is suffering from Amblyopia and developed left eye squint since childhood and now losing on vision. After many checks, now doctor has suggested surgery of both eyes is mandatory or she will lose her vision. Earlier treatment included double vision number glasses and occulation (eye patching) of eyes alternately 2-3 hrs per day. Now doctor has suggested squint surgery. 1. What are the chances of vision correction or reducing number? 2. If the number does not go, can we go for lasik?

Hi,

Squint surgery doesn't correct vision or reduce the number and we can't do lasik in patients less than 18 years. You have to wear spectacles mam and do patching fro the vision. Patching is the best treatment for vision till now and is very very effective.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
