How Can Addiction To Cough Syrup Be Treated?

I m Munna addicted to corex cough syrup since last 17 yrs, previously I was taking 5 bottles in a day but now I ve reduced the volume, currently my dose is 2 bott in a day. I want to overcome from this addiction but don t want to admit in rehabilitation center. Please suggest the medicines to recover from this bad habits. Please help.

Hi,

Cough syrups can contain different opioid formulations leading to its addiction potential. You can try slowly reducing the amount of cough syrup intake over a few weeks.

Slowly reducing the dose, will help reduce occurrence and severity of withdrawal symptoms. Mild withdrawal symptoms like pain and diarrhea can be treated with Tylenol and Loperamide respectively.

However, if more troublesome withdrawal symptoms occur, you need to seek medical help at a clinic or rehabilitation centre.
