How Can Acid Reflux Be Treated?

I have acid reflux and have had it for years now. My doctor says I have a lot of acid and has prescribed me the purple pill Nexium. However, my insurance does not cover it. So he prescribed me with this other pill called Pantoprazole Sod Dr 40 mg and it is not working at all anymore. Then he prescribes me Esomeprazole Mag Dr 40 mg. This is not helping either. What else can I ask him to prescribe me for this acid in my stomach. I am almost afraid to eat because everything makes me nausea and bloated like I am 9 months pregnant. Sherry Parks

Hi Dear ,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have acid reflux and is not getting improved with medications. It seems to be due to release of esophageal sphincter and excessive production of acid by stomach.

Need not to worry. Treatment of acid reflux depend upon taking medicine and mainly due to alteration in lifestyle. You should take plenty of fluids. Avoid taking outside food. Avoid spicy and heavy meal specially at night. Eat at least one hour before going to bed, take a light walk for 15-20 mins after every meal , take antacid after every meal like gelusil. If symptoms keeps on persisting visit ENT specialist once and start treatment after complete examination.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
