How Can Abdominal Bloating And Constipation Be Treated?

I am 74. I have had a huge amount of gas lately (up to 25 times a day) which is very unusual for me. I have also been dealing with a lot of constipation since I started Buproprion about a year or so ago. I have a history of IBS and Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome (this was diagnosed over 50 years ago and has not seemed to cause any major problems except delayed digestion). I have also had a lot of belching and am on a trial of Rinatidine, recommended by my doctor. She also gave me Citrocel for my constipation, which seems to be helpful, though a pattern of very soft and very hard stools is a part of my IBS history, so it is hard for me to tell.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Dear bloating and constipation may be due to Infection or irritable bowel syndrome or it may be due to drugs etc.
Other possibilities like lactose intolerance or inflammatory bowel problems or infections or malobsorption syndromes etc.
Avoid spicy food and alcohol avoid smoking and caffeine drinks. Take Metamucil or Benefiber for bulk formation.
Avoid lactose and gluten contain food. Use tablet Normaxin twice a day for five days.
If symptoms not improved please consult your gastroentrologist he will examine and treat you accordingly.
