How Can A Swollen Spider Bite On The Hand Be Treated?

My husband was bitten by a brown recluse spider on his left wrist, his dominant hand, while vacationing in North Carolina. He was seen at a local health clinic and given antibiotics with the recommendations to soak in Epsom salt water. The swelling of his hand is massive, have photo I could send. Should he see a specialist? Would taking prednisone relieve the swelling better than NSAIDs?
