How Can A Swelling And Redness On The Finger Be Treated?

My son has been away at a Bird Dog event this weekend for a fundraiser for his team. At this event they were handling dead ducks and other animals. He woke up this morning with what appears to be a spider bite on his finger. He got home from this event about 3 hours ago complaining about his finger, which is swollen and red. Approximately an hour later I noticed the red streaks going up his arm to his armpit. Lymphangitis? He is not running a fever. Do I need to take him to the Emergency Room?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello,

As per your case history of swelling and redness, my treatment advice is -
1. Apply ice on the lesions twice daily.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like fusiderm cream twice daily on it.
3. Take an NSAID like ibuprofen for 5-7 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like levofloxacin and azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
