Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Two days before Christmas I was filling stocking stuffers at the fireplace. I slipped an fell on the hardwoods and bricks and sprained my left arm, wrist. They put me in a brace and a sling. The urgent care prescribed 20-800mg. ibuprophen and 5-Norco. the ibuprophen really upset my stomach. I took 1 Norco 5 nights in a row and it didn t help with the pain. Can I go back there and ask them for a different pain med? Like Percocet or other codeine related meds?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
You have pain in your left arm and wrist due to the fall, which would have stretched the ligaments and tendons of your left upper limb.
What is most important is absolute rest to your left upper limb till complete healing of the injured ligaments and tendons.
An arm brace is good. However, it may be good if you could get an x-ray to rule out any fracture to any of the bones of your left arm, forearm or hand. Pain medications may be taken if required, and that which suits your stomach and system.
The foundation of the treatment remains complete rest to your left upper limb till complete pain relief and healing of the injured ligaments and tendons.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ajit Kumar Varma
