How Can A Split Thumb Nail Be Treated?

I have a cone shaped split at the base of my thumb nail. It is growing out and is a little wider and deeper. Should I be worried? I read something that something on that order can be a sign of pancreatic cancer and my mother and a brother died of pancreatic cancer.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If you have a hereditary tendency for pancreatic cancer then just go and get it tested. Markers of cancer can be found even well before the disease appears.

That time you can get treated and you will be on the safer side. So, it requires urgent care and kindly get that done. But this nail which can be removed under local anesthesia when you have cosmetic issues but it doesn't require much attention than the above problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Archana
