How Can A Painful Foot Injury Be Treated?

Hello, I have had on and off foot problems due to running and overuse. A month ago I reinjured my foot and went to the doctor. He said I have a stress fracture. On the xray the fracture looked like it was on my the bones on my foot. The second and third. I had bruising on the top of my foot between the first and second toes. Should I get a second opinion? I have been in a boot now for 3.5 weeks and my foot is still hurting. At night it gets worse and feels hot as well. Thanks, Tanya

General Surgeon 's  Response
A stress fracture of the 2,3, metatarsals will take about 4 to 6 weeks to heal completely, and you to be symptom free while ambulation. You must strictly 'Offload' the foot, that is no weight bearing at all till complete healing. The POP boot will help keep the bones in position and prevent any unintentional pressure and displacement of the fracture site. Once the bones have healed, please go about walking and any athletic activity with gradually increasing load to the foot. Never go beyond your body capacity of endurance.
