How Can A Lump On The Front Side Of The Neck Be Treated?

I have noticed a lump on the front of my neck, around the throat area. I had it looked at before and the doctor said it was nothing. I'm still noticing it and a little worried that it could be cancer since I smoked for 10 years, but have not smoked now in 3 years. I'm 30 years old, seemingly pretty healthy. I'm going to have it looked at again in a few weeks just to be sure, but what do you think this could be?
