How Can A Hematoma On The Left Temple Be Treated?

Ten days ago, my husband, 5 8 , 135lbs, in excellent health, fell down a couple of steep stones steps onto a stone walkway. His left temple developed a hematoma about 3 inches in diameter by about 2 high, it did bled profusely. I drove him to the nearest first aid in Ely NV, more than a 100 miles away. They scanned his head and reassured us he was OK. They never applied ice and today, the hematoma is still as salliant and we are wondering what to do about and what to expect. Thank you.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You have to be patient and give it time. There usually is no reason to evacuate a subcutaneous hematoma. So as long as he is OK, I suggest you simply give it some time (it can be weeks).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Anders Mark Christensen
