Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I broke my ankle in three places and had to have surgery to put metal pins in it to rebuild it. That was middle of September. I then wore a soft cast for 2 weeks. I've had a hard cast on my ankle for two week now. It goes from below my knee to middle of my foot. I was told not to put weight on it for 4 weeks. I was doing fine and pain was nonexistence apart from some discomfort. In the last few days my ankle feels like it's on fire. A constant burning sensation as if my skin is being rubbed raw inside the cast. Every so often I'm also getting a shooting pain up my calf. Should I be worried about this or is it normal healing. Not due back at the doctor for another 2 weeks so just wanted some advice.
Hello,my name is dr.Dorina Gurabardhi.I understand your concern. Some advices that I can give to you are; -Stay off the injured ankle so you do not injure it further. -Keep the ankle elevated to help decrease swelling and pain. -Apply cold packs to the injured area to decrease swelling and pain. -Ibuprofen may be ideal for ankle injuries because it acts as both a pain medicine and a medicine to keep inflammation down. Hope my answer was helpful. If you have any other question Ill be glad to help. Regards, dr.Dorina Gurabardhi
