How Can A Dog Bite Be Treated?

Hi, my 1 year old son was bitten by a dog..he already completed 3 doses of Verorab. Unfortunately anti-rabies vaccine is out of stock in our place specially the Verorab and no assurance when will be the next supplies would come. It is supposed to be his 14th day yesterday and supposed to be the 4th shot. However, there s a nationwide shortage of anti-rabies vaccine here in the Philippines. What happened if we can t continue his vaccine or if he miss the 4th and 5th dose?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There are 4 doses schedule for rabies virus infection (0, 3, 7, 28) that is for prophylaxis from rabies.

If you missed the last dose then not to worry about it because that is just for a preventive measure.

You already had 3 doses so, it's very rare to have rabies.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani
