Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was recently bitten by my dog accidentally while playing. She has her rabies vaccine and current on shots and I had a tetanus shot 2 yrs ago. The bite broke the skin but scrubs have formed and the bruise has turned yellow and is healing, However there is a hard lump under the bruise will this eventually go away?
Thank you for your query. I understand your concerns.
From what you have described as scab is formed, it looks like the wound is healing. Is the wound discharging any pus or liquid?
If the wound is discharging any pus, if the wound is still painful or if the surrounding skin is red and warm to touch, it means the wound is still infected, you could take a course of antibiotics like Co-Amoxiclav 650 mg three times a day for 1 week (provided you are not allergic to penicillin). Alternatively, you could take Erythromycin 250 mg four times a day for 1 week if you have penicillin allergy. Both of these need to be prescribed by your doctor.
The hard lump under the bruise is an induration, which is part of the healing process. It will over a few weeks’ time slowly decrease in size and may disappear.
I hope this answer has helped you.
