Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello.I bumped my shin on something about 2 or 3 months ago. I re-bumped it a couple of times over that time. I ve taken antibiotics, but the bump remains. I lanced the bump to drain it about a month ago and it reduced the size considerably so I don t accidentally re-injure it.but the bump is still there and I m wondering if I should lance it again.A dermatologist is who prescribed the antibiotics. What do you think? I have no problem lancing it to drain.
It seems that due to bumping the shin, again and again, has led to injury to the soft tissues. Along with hard lump seems to be due to hematoma formation and it occurs due to rupture of blood vessels and accumulation of blood in the soft tissues.
I would suggest you do cool compresses over the area. You can take an anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen. Apply Heparin gel as it will help in resolving the lump soon. Elevate your leg while lying down and also limit exertion. In case of no improvement in a week consult an Orthopedician and get evaluated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora,
Dentist
