Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
What is a Baker's cyst?
Baker's cyst is a pocket of fluid that forms a lump behind the knee. It is caused when excess joint fluid is pushed into one of the small sacs of tissue behind the knee
It is also called 'popliteal cyst'.
Most of the times, Baker's cyst may go away on its own without any intervention. Giving rest to knee, wearing
elastic bandage over knee joint and using
crutch or walker to move around are some of the means which could decrease pressure on knee and allow the cyst to regress on its own.
If the cyst does not go away, or if it is causing a lot of pain with restricted joint movements, your doctor may drain the fluid with a needle. You may also be given a shot of
steroid medicine to reduce swelling.
In rare cases, a Baker's cyst is removed by means of surgery.
Hope information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
