How Can HIV Infection Be Diagnosed?

Hello Doctor!! Greetings!!! I am a 44 year old Asian Male!! On 25/11/2017, I was quite drunk and had protected Insertive Vaginal Intercourse with a Sex Worker!!! I did suck her nipple for about 10 seconds too!! Though protected I was quite insecure about contracting HIV!!! Within 23 hours post exposure,I did carry out a baseline lab test including PCR DNA which c was negative for HIV and I immediately started PEP meds being Truvada and Raltegravir. After a week I got the source tested and she was negative for HIV as per 4th Gen Tests and PCR DNA. I still continued my pep though with a single dose of Truvada for the rest of 21 days. This is my 1st such encounter though I am sure it is the last one too!!! Just curious and paranoid!!! Is there any possibility of me contracting HIV???? Thanks and Regards. Ken.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It sounds like your risk is very low. You have taken all the proper precautions.

I suggest that you get a 4th generation test 3 months after the encounter and if that is negative then you are cleared.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Kathy Robinson
