How Can GERD Along With High Cholesterol Levels Be Treated?

I have GERD. I take Rapeprazle EC 20 MG twice a day. I also have high cholesterol. Lately i have been waking up in bed inhaling bile from my esophagus into my lungs. This is very painful and then it takes a few days for my lungs to clear. It feels like pneumonia, terrible cough and pain. Sometimes i have to take more GERD medication in the form of Zantac. I believe this may be due to undigested food when I go to bed. I need direction on what can be done. Is this a dangerous condition?

Hello,

Here I am going to mention a few lifestyle modifications. Please try to follow them to avoid your problem.
-Avoid spicy food, alcohol, painkiller medicine, caffeinated drinks as much as possible.
-Eat small portions with increased frequency.
-Avoid heavy dinner. Sleep two hours after dinner.
-Keep head end elevated while sleeping.
If not symptoms persist, please consult a gastroenterologist and get an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy for further treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
 Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
