Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have Crohn s disease and normally take Norco 10/325 for pain every six hours as needed. The ER discharge me with Toradol to take every six hours as needed ( for the inflammation). I am having a really bad Crohn s flare up. Can you take these two together? Is it safe?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
These two can be taken together and Norco should not cause exacerbation or Crohn disease. There are several treatment lines for Crohn exacerbations. Corticosteroids such as prednisone can help reduce inflammation anywhere in your body, but they have numerous side effects.
Azathioprine (Imuran) and mercaptopurine (Purinethol) are the most widely used immunosuppressants for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. Adalimumab (Humira) is expensive but most efficient in severe an intractable cases. You should discuss the right therapy with your gastroenterologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein
