How Can Barrett S Esophagus Be Treated?

I have digestion issues which lead to a diagnosis if Barrett s Esophagus. The lesion was ablated, RF, however I m still supposed to ingest 20mg of omeprazole daily for the rest of my life. I m taking 10mg. I don t like it. I believe it s a chemical that will contribute to other medical issues I m not interested in. I take nothing else. Will a pre/pro biotic fix my gut? What about bone broth? Food is medicine, my preference. I m about 20 lbs. over weight, 59 years young, and exercise, Zumba, three days a week. Oh, by the way I m 20 months recovering from a traumatic brain injury. No meds for that. Speak with me please.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Omeprazole is a drug used to prevent acid reflux. It is very important in your case continuous acid exposure can cause Barrett's esophagus and later esophageal cancer.

Nothing much to worry as Omeprazole is a widely prescribed and safe drug with minimal side effects.

You can safely continue Omeprazole without many concerns.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
