Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 2 & 3 year old boys get hyper active coming in from daycare & it s almost impossible for them to wind down for bed. They will not stop bouncing off the walls & lights off room cool, bath, sleepy time wash & lotion to help, it s pretty rough for them to calm down, what can I do or do they need medicine
I am wondering about their diet and activity while at daycare.
If they are not given enough physical activity there, this may be pent up energy.
However, if they are given anything with sugar (foods, drinks, juices) or caffeine (chocolate, sodas), this might be the explanation. In addition, some children have problems with artificial coloring and artificial flavors. Their bodies are having a biochemical response. So cleaning up their nutrition might help.
I would not go directly to giving them medication - that would be a very last resort. If they are not normally hyperactive, something is going on and the 1st two items, above, would be the place to start.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bonnie Berger-Durnbaugh,
