11 year old female, diagnosed with ADD x 2 years ago, currently taking medication for ADD. Has begun to show signs of puberty, and just started to middle school (6th grade). Child is physically fit and active, social but struggling to keep up grades at school. Problems paying attention, getting school work done on time, forgets to do homework assignments, and tests poorly due to anxiety about testing.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

ADD is seen in school going kids and most cases resolve as child grows older. It can be managed well with proper care and timely treatment. He needs supportive treatment and counselling. Consult a child psychiatrist and get evaluated. Most cases resolve well with behavioral therapy. Sometimes short term drugs may be required. Proper parental support is essential for the treatment.

Wishing you all the best.

Thanks.
