How Blood Pressure Will Be Normal Before Surgery?
My 84 year old mother had bladder suspension surgery on Tuesday. Her blood pressure, which has always been normal, was high an hour before surgery and has remained fairly high. It was just measured at 176/100 before dinner. Is there something we can do to help her lower that? Is that normal for 4 days post-op for someone her age? Thank you, Tonya

Post surgery rise in BP is very common. It usually remain elevated for a week and than gradually settles down. However, it it persistently remains high which is common in this age group as underlying hypertension is very commonly missed by patients, is managed by group of drugs like CCB and beta blockers.
I suggest you should not worry and keep a track of regular BP measurements. If it remains above 160/90 mmHg persistently then talk to your physician regarding starting of low dose anti-hypertensive drugs which can be then monitored.

Given reading of blood pressure may not be considered as hypertension, actually it has to be measured by physician and it need to be monitor for some days just to labelled it as hypertension, in my opinion her blood pressure needs to be monitor by physician if this remains high then of course she needs medicines, condition may demands the medical attention.
