Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a fine needle aspirations done and it disclosed hurtle cell groups and micro follicular cell groups with pleomorphic nuclei. A surgery is recommended. Plan: take out left side , check for cancer in operating room. If cancer then remove whole thyroid. With this particular finding there is a 1 in 5 chance it is cancer. Questions: 1. How accurate are most thyroid nodular FNA s? Are most pathologists accurate about this particular finding or can they be mistaken? Is this finding unmistakable? 2. The surgeon I have been referred to has done 150 to 200 in 10 years. Is he considered a experienced for this delicate surgery?
