Horrible Stench In Nose. Taking Antibiotics, No Relief. History Of Lost Olfactory Perception, Surgeries Had No Effect

I have a horrible smell in my nose that is getting worse, like a rotting flesh smell (tomorrow will be 3 weeks since it started). I lost my sense of smell 10 years ago and had sinus surgery 5 or 6 years ago to try and fix it to no avail. My family doctor called in antibiotics and I've been taking them for 4 days. I tried to make an appt with an ENT but it will be 2 weeks before I can get in and I can't stand it. It is making me sick. There is NO way I can live with this smell for 2 more weeks. It is literally making me ill. I need to know if there is something that an emergency room could do for me or a emergency clinic. I am a 49 yr old relatively healthy woman.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding loss of olfactory perception about 10 years ago, but suddenly you felt horrible stench in nose.

Your clinical history favors for perverted olfaction, this may be due to disease of olfactory bulb or nerve . This demands a thorough clinical examination of nose and opinion of neurologist as well , for reaching to correct diagnosis.

Till you are in waiting to specialist you may take-

a- Steroidal nasal spray.

b- Antibiotic.

c- Anti allergic.

I hope this will help you.

Regards.
