Hi, my mom was diagnosed for stage IV colorectal cancer (Adenocarcinoma) and also reports confirmed metastases to both the lobes of the lungs. She is not under any treatments for her present diagnosis, however she has a long history of asthma and all long her life since she is on constant regime of inhalers/dialators. She also had Osteoporosis and her lumber region collapsed and of course that pain on her spinal is there and she had vascular surgery during 2005 and she is wearing compression stockings.
My question is, with my mom's present diagnosis of stage IV cancer, she is looking as if nothing has happened and of course she is not informed of her condition just not to bring down her feelings or self control.
1. She doesn't have any pain so far like in the abdomen or body pain
2. Absolutely no chest congestion or unusual cough
3. No fever
Symptoms that I am observing
1. Significant weight loss. She has reduced to 53Kgs from about 70 Kgs within 3 months
2. About 7 to 8 trips to the restroom and most of the times there is blood in the stools and the stools are real dark in colour and the stools are not solid but kind of mucous nature
3. Significant weakness as I observe, but she is able to do her first duties herself with out any support or minimal support if needed
As per the Oncologist, "Let the patient be placed under comfort, Chemo or radiation will have its own effects, Palliative approach may be an option, her longevity may be another 6 months to an year which is an estimation." Wondering if she is going to experience pain or other symptoms during her last days or weeks, or what should be anticipated ? I heard that pain can be managed ? Most of the patients and from what I am reading, have reported bad pain and other critical symptoms and my mom is not and I pray let her be that way without any suffering further for her age.
Thanks Much,
LV
