Hi I have been freaking out lately regarding STIs. I was not educated on stds in the past and I slept around a decent amount of people. I've had about 23 partners, and rarely - if ever -used protection. Many of these were relationships, but not all. Only one was someone I had just met. I still would get STD checked yearly, but my absence of stds always reinforced that idea that it "couldn't happen to me". The last time I recieved a full test including HIV and HSV was two years ago. It was negative. After that, I had 5 partners that year, and took a general STI panel (no blood test) and found out I have chlamydia. That was really scary for me, and I stopped having casual sex. I have now been in a relationship for a year. Last week, I read and article about herpes that shocked me. One in five people get it, most people have no symptoms, and you can spread it without any symptoms! I had no idea that it was this common, or that you could have AND spread it without an outbreak. Now I am so scared I have it- my chances seem so high with the number of people I've been with unprotected. I made a gyno appt for next week and my question is- should I get tested with no symptoms? My bf has no symptoms too. I see a lot of conflicting information online about getting tested with no symptoms. I'm so scared to be tested and have the results come out positive and have to tell him... it seems like the worst thing in the world. But I'm also scared to infect someone I love! HELPP!
