Hi. I am a 24 year old crohns disease patient. 12 months ago admitted to hospital felt unwell after binge drinking.
amylase was 130 (slightly elevated) doctor said no concern that it defiantly wasn't pancreatis. All other bloods normal.2 months later routine blood check amylase still elevated, GP advises me to stop drinking for 3 months and come back for bloods.
In the meantime I see my Gastro consultant for crohns appointment, I brought up the issue to her about the amylase elevated and she said Crohns can cause amylase to fluctuate and theres no need to stop drinking, So as a result I didnt repeat any bloods and started drinking like normal again. Just once a week basically.
However one month ago I got routine blood tests and amylase is now 150. This GP is different by the way, not my regular GP. She says Crohns doesn't really cause amylase to increase and I may have chronic pancreatics. My symptoms are oily stools, and pain in the middle of the belly occasionally (Unsure weather its crohns pain) I have no other symptoms. I am awaiting a CT scan to see what the problem is but I am very worried and everything is adding up to chronic pancreatics. I am praying its something else that is causing the high amylase and oily stool. I am very impatient for the CT scan so thats why Im asking 2nd opinion here. Ino its hard to tell without the CT scan Im just looking for some hope. I have no cases of previous acute pancreatis.
