Hello, I am a 45-year-old male with type 1 diabetes and Hashimoto's thyroiditis (post total thyroidectomy, taking Levothyroxine). I take Basaglar (59 units / day), Humalog (~12 units / meal), and Atorvastatin (40mg)

In my occasional (say once every few months) acute episodes of hypoglycemia, I've noticed a strange phenomenon in my field of vision that I've noticed in the last five years or more.

As my blood sugar bottoms out, I notice an area of my eyes, roughly the lower-right-hand quadrant, become distorted. It begins as a jagged patch, where it appears as if I'm looking through various strips of, say, black and silver mylar film, and for about the next 10-15 minutes, this anomaly expands into an irregularly-shaped outline that takes up most of my field of vision.

The bizarre part is that this isn't in one eye or the other, but both, implying this is in my brain. The outline slowly dissipates as my blood sugar level returns to normal.

Any insights would be appreciated! Things go back to normal after this occurs but this visual anomaly is new to me.
