Hello, I am 22yrs old girl, the day i was born in the year 1993, the doctors discovered my mom was suffering from some psychiatric problems, on further diagnosis it was found she is a schizophrenic. All through my life i have seen her going several psychotic episode. Recently i have come to know my maternal grandmother(65yrs) too is now showing symptoms of schizophrenia, i mean she is also having auditory hallucination. I asked my mother and she told me that her side of family had such psychiatric trouble earlier. Even my maternal uncle had my psychiatric trouble(not schizophrenia though) right after some operation that he had gone through. So far there has been no such encounter from my dad's side of family. But now i am feeling scared if it passes onto me. I am anyway an extreme introvert, suffer from constant self doubt and inferiority complex & to add to that i had been a very depressed kid from my childhood as I had a disturbed childhood due to my mother's illness. I am worried and curious to know that whether schizophrenia is genetic or not, if yes then to what extent. Is there any step i can take as precaution?! Please help!
