Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello Dr. Rynne, My mom had a hip replaced in March 2014 and she developed a staph infection. Her infectious diseases doctor put her on intravenous (past) and oral antibiotics (current). Her heart developed Afib so a cardiologist prescribed another drug. Now she has daily diarrhea bouts that are caused by the antibiotic. So the infectious disease doctor prescribed another drug to counteract this effect. It doesn't work so my mom is taking Imodium frequently - like when she wants to leave the house in the morning. Her primary care physician (Internal Medicine) doesn't have the knowledge to manage the meds and the specialists aren't talking to each other; the pharmacist says it is OK to take the pills together. This is crazy. Someone needs to look at this list of meds and help my mom figure out what her options are. It's getting worse by the prescription, not better. Thank you, Lisa
