Have Been Examined By Doctors Without Physical Touch. Reports Show - Checked Thoroughly.

Have Doctors (M.D./D.O.s) completely abandoned PHYSICAL TOUCH (e.g. hands-on) during diagnostic inquiry/examination/s? I have had 2 COMPLETE PHYSICALS where I've been examined, but the M.D. (in BOTH instances) was never closer than 3-feet away from me during the entire consultation. However, the computerized REPORTS indicate all systems were checked thuroughly.

Hi there ~

I understand your concerns. You may be treated for the condition you have with just the history you give and I believe that you might need no physical examination if the diagnosis is apparent with a history and you need just a lab test or an imaging study to confirm the diagnosis. However, it is somewhat necessary to still do a physical examination to complete the consultation. It is becoming a thing of the past however, with all the advances in technology that can detect the kind of illness you have accurately with just the testing reports. I am sorry to hear that you were prepared for an examination while your doctor chose not to do it. I wonder if you discussed this in the patient room itself, this could have made your wanting a physical examination known and the doctor may have complied.

I hope this helps. Take care and have a lovely day!

Hi,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic,
In clinical medicine the history taking and good physical examination is of immense importance. We do take history and then proceed for physical examination.
You experience could be correct as all doctors are not same. Please do not make a impression out of few incidences.
Investigations and tests do help in diagnosis of patients but still physical examination remains of great importance.
Today is 1st july which is doctors day.
Physical examination, and use of stethoscope to know condition of heart and lungs remains valuable.
I hope doctors will take care.
Thanks.
Good Luck.
Dr.Akhilesh Dubey M.D.
