Has Norethisterone Acetate USP Tablet Any Positive Or Negative Role In Pregnancy?
hello doc I have been taking norethisterone acetate USP excipents for last four days. My doc prescribed these medicine to me beacuse my periods were 6 days late and they have yet not started. my due date was march 18th. Today i took a pregency test and it was positive. will these tablet has any poitive or negative role to play in my pregnancy ?
Hi & Welcome to HCM. I appreciate your concern for the safety of Norethisterone tablet during pregnancy.
These tablets have a negative role to play in pregnancy.
Norethisterone is not safe for the fetus and thus contraindicated in pregnancy. There is high risk of fetal malformation and virilisation of female fetus. The potential risks are higher than benefits. There is a possible chance that the fetus may be aborted.
Your treating doctor should have done a pregnancy test before the medication was given to you.
You are therefore advised to consult an obstetrician for proper monitoring like periodic ultrasound scanning to detect any fetal malformation at an early stage.
Hope this could answer your query.
