Had Fishy Smell In Urine, Had Fungal Infection. Drank A Lot Of Water. Check With A Doctor?

Im a male and had fishy smell urine last night, i never had something like that before. I started to drink lots of water though may be i ate something and causing that smell . With in six hours the smell semmed to dissapear. So i drank more water and then went to sleep . Woke up this morning i pead , and there was no smelly fish odour coming from my pea. So i drank more water then head to work, and pead again , there is no fish smell.
I would like to mention that my wife had minor fungal infection 7 days ago ( i think Candid ) and was treated .
I did not have intrercourse with her during that time until couple of days ago ( No penetration) .

is that relavant ? do i need to check with a doctor , as there is no fishy smell from my urine anymore ?

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

In males who have a fishy smell in the urine, please understand that this is not a hygiene problem or a problem relating to hydration which can be solved by drinking more water. The most probable cause for a male having fishy smelling urine is by having sexual intercourse with a woman who most probably had either trichomoniasis or bacterial vaginosis.

As you have mentioned that your wife also had an infection, you have most probably picked this up from your wife. Although most transmissions take place during the infective stage, some can take place before or after.

You will thus have to visit a doctor, who will examine you and confirm whether or not you have picked up the infection from your wife, and accordingly treat you for it. Please do not ignore this, as either of the above infections can cause long-term resistance to medication and have other adverse effects on your body.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
