GERD, Hypothyroidism, Swallowing Saliva Is Hurtful. What Is The Reason?

Its hard to sallow, i usually have to swallow twice to get all saliva down. feels like theres something in my throat all time. Sometimes food gets stuck in throat like not enough saliva to swallow it, thirsty alot. I have hypothyroid and take small pill sometimes i choke on it or just gets stuck and have to swallow again to get it down. Is this normal? I also have GERD.

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Such symptoms can be caused by throat inflammation due to GERD indeed. However it can be also due to enlarged tonsils, esophageal spasm. Sometimes such symptoms appear due to esophageal or throat cancer (both more possible if you smoke).
GERD can cause chronic inflammation of stomach and esophagus and increase a risk of cancer.
That is why I suggest you to visit your doctor and have gastroscopy done. Laryngologist should examine your throat.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
