Explain Exact Difference Between Generic Brand And Prescription Written By Doctor
Hello, can you please tell me the exact difference between a generic brand and a prescription that is written by your doctor. I have a lot of allergies, some pharmacists and doctors tell me they are exactly the same, some say they have different coating and different fillers. The actual drug is the same but I could be allergic to a filler or coating. Is there any truth in that?

Hi thanks for using HCM.
Yes they are true. The generic brand refers to the drugs from the innovator company and once after the patent period is over other companies will manufacture these with different combination of additives like color, bulk forming agents. Your doctor may prescribe any of these. So some may be allergic to these additives, where they may not be allergic to the active ingredient.
So Better to select drugs from good companies and use the same drugs you were using instead of jumping to others since you are allergic to some drugs.
Hope this answered your query. Wish you good health.
a drug contain actual salt binding material base and color in branded both base and salt is approved by drug authority in eneric only salt is approved basa and color are different and an allergic patient can react due to different basa binding material and color
Dear Sir/Madam Thanks for the query. The actual drug inside the tablet or capsule is same. There is no difference between generic / branded medicine, as far as active component goes. however the binding and stabilizing agents may be different. This is true for generic vs branded drugs as well as for two different brands. Hope this helps. Yes, it is also true thet you can have allergy to some binding or stabilizing component. Sincerely Sukhvinder
