Doxinate,Susten 300 & Duphaston 10mg Are Safe During 8th Week Of Pregnancy?
hi doctor...i'm in 8th week of pregnency n all the tests are normal..but my doctor has suggested me doxinate tablet, susten 300 mg, duphaston 10 mg n nuroday... is these medicines are safe or i should consult some other doctor as this is my first issue...pls help
Susten contains progesterone, However progesterone is not approved for use during pregnancy in any advanced country such as US, UK etc. Some authorities in the past used to recommend its use in recurrent miscarriage or threatened abortion but now there is now no evidence of any benefit from such practice and recommend against the use in early pregnancy unless there is proven deficiency. One problem with this medicine is that female baby may suffer from hirsutism (unwanted hair on face, chest etc). Therefore if at all progesterones have to be given when there is documented deficiency, it is preferable to give dydrogesterone (sold as Duphaston) or medroxyprogesterone (sold as Meprate) and susten is usually not preferred.
I have given sufficient information to you about this drug, now its up to you to decide to change your doctor, but their is no harm in taking a second opinion.
Doxinate is safe in pregnancy. It is prescribed for vomiting in pregnancy. It doesnot have harmful effect on foetus. You may stop taking this tablet if your nausea or vomiting subsides. Usually, vomiting stops after first trimester that is after 3 months.
