Does The Use Of Metformin And Insulin Cause Diarrhea?
My sister was recently diagnosed with pelvic mass requiring surgery. She was told the mass encompassed one of her ovaries and was attaching to her colon. Within the last 2 wks she is experiencing distention with bloating and abd pain and when she eats she has diarrhea. She is also a diabetic and takes insulin and metformin 2 times a day. Can the metformin be part of the diarrhea?
It is common with Metformin. Diarrhea occurs moreover in [immediate release formulation 53% or normally 10% of patients have diarrhea]. Eat high fiber diet [fruits, salads, steamed veggies, amla, aloe vera, basil also helps]. Loperamide taken once can symptomatically help for diarrhea and don't repeat if symptoms persist.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
