Does Taking Contraceptive Pill Help Regularize Periods?

Hi I m 28 and have never had regular periods and have come off noriday because I was even more irregular than ever (possibly because I started taking it mid cycle) so I ve stopped taking it and I m going to try a different mini pill on the 1St day of my next period but it s been 3 months and I ve still not got it. I m definitely not pregnant, should I just start taking it anyway and see what happens?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Taking contraceptive pills not only helps to prevent pregnancy, but also can be used to regularize periods. Usually, combined pills are used for this purpose.
In your case, since you seem to have disturbances in menstrual pattern, it would be ideal for you to consult Gynecologist and then take any of such pills before you wish to do so. Also, you need to confirm with certain tests that you are not pregnant before starting on any of such pills.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
