Does Taking Statins Cause Diabetes, Fatty Liver And Kidney Problems?

I have been on cholesterol -lowering drugs-statins- since the early 90 s. I am now a diabetic, have a fatty liver and problems with my kidneys. I recently found out that all of these can be linked to statins. I do not drink and have never been a high fat, sweets eater. Is there any point in stopping the drugs at this point?

Well I don't believe any of your problem is due to statins.
Diabetes is a multifactorial disease with predominant genetic influence.Amount of sweet consumed before the onset of disease doesn't have much influence on the onset of disease.Even a person who don't consume any sweet at all can develop diabetes and persons consuming huge amount of sweets may not develop diabetes at all.
If you have diabetes or perhaps pre diabetes, you need to limit the sweet intake. There is no need or use in limiting sweets in an healthy person(if he can control his weightgain and not be obeise or overweight).Stations are very effective drug in controlling high cholesterol and may be if you hadn't taken them, you might have suffered from many other serious disease caused due to high cholesterol levels on top of the diseases you are currently facing now.In my personal experience, I have seen lot of patients on statins without any serious problems.
For your knowledge I will list here most of the side effect of atorvastatin(a commonly used statin).
Diarrhea (5-14%)
Nasopharyngitis (4-13%)
Arthralgia (4-12%)
Insomnia (1-5%)
Urinary tract infection (4-8%)
Nausea (4-7%)
Dyspepsia (3-6%)
Increased transaminases (2-3%)
Muscle spasms (2-5%)
Musculoskeletal pain (2-5%)
Myalgia (3-8%)
Limb pain (3-8%)
Pharyngolaryngeal pain (1-4%)
Angina
Syncope
Dyspnea
Myopathy
Anaphylaxis
Stevens-Johnson syndrome
