Does Taking Postinor 2 Twice Within A Span Of 24 Hours Cause Any Side Effect?
Hello Dr. I had unprotected sex over night and and took postinor 2 at around 11am the next day, then had unprotected sex at around 6pm in the evening the same day I took the postinor 2. Does that interfere with the dosage? Will the postinor be effective?

Hi,
Postinor 2 is an emergency contraceptive. It has high doses of hormones and avoids 85% of possible pregnancies. It is active when taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex. Actually, both of your intercourse would have been affected and prevented pregnancy by single dose of Postinor 2 (both of them being within the range of 72 hours.)
Now, as you already had double dose of medicine within 24 hours. It will avoid pregnancy, but would lead to menstrual problem (irregularity, profuseness) due to over load of hormones. Be prepared, careful and consult a gynecologist in case of need.

Postinor 2 contains levonorgestrel that acts as an emergency contraceptive method and used in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies from unprotected sexual intercourses if it is taken within 72 hours following unprotected sexual encounters. Usually there is no limitation and women can take Postinor 2 as necessary for an unwanted pregnancy from unprotected sexual intercourses. Frequent use may interfere with the normal menstrual period and cause irregular bleeding. Otherwise, the administration of Postinor 2 is not associated with significant health hazards. Usually frequent use of Postinor 2 doesn't interfere with the dosage or effectiveness.
