Does Taking Lipitor And Zestril Cause Dermatitis?

My husband was just diagnosed with Interstitial Granulomatous Dermatitis. Doctors suspect rash may be caused by long term use of Lipitor or Zestril (20 to 30 years). They have told him to discontinue both drugs and return for checkup in four weeks. Have you heard of this reaction to drugs the patient has taken for many years?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Yes, these medications can cause dermatitis. Although it is a very rare condition however, interstitial granulomatous dermatitis can occur following the use of cholesterol lowering drugs like Lipitor and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors like zesril.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
