Does Surgery Cause Depression And Anxiety?

I had three very serious surgeries 6 months apart. One was surgery for rectal prolapse 7and one half hour, six months later I had extensive spine surgery I could not start recovery for the spine because I had a serious hip problem that had to be addressed after six months healing on the spine. All this occurred in one years time. I am experiencing depression and anxiety which my psychiatrist thinks is a result of the medical history of the past year. He put me on Lexapro two weeks ago. What is your thinking?
