Does Spitting Up Of Thick Mucus Need Medical Attention?

My dog got sprayed by a skunk and ran into my house. The owner was so strong it smelled like there was a fire burning inside my house. It was so strong that I had to take a nebulizer treatment I am COPD. Now my mucus is very thick however it is clear when I Spit It Up. It is very hard to spit up though. I am taking Mucinex with guaifenesin in it. And I am not eating any dairy or caffeine. Do I need to go into my provider?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Some times toxic fumes/ allergic spray may cause irritation to respiratory mucosa may cause bronchospasm and sputam production. Use bronchodilators and corticosteroid inhalors. Use expectorents ,still your symptoms not improved please consult your physician immediately he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
