I live in South Carolina. My daughter is almost 24 years old 5 1 and about 150 lbs she told me she smoked a joint a day until she was 27 weeks if she stopped at 27 weeks will Marijuana be in her babies system/meconium when the baby is born? If so will she be reported to cps?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Marijuana and all other recreational drugs must be avoided in the pregnancy especially in the first three months. Alcohol is also not safe during pregnancy.

You can go for an anomaly scan to look for any congenital problems. Problems like preterm also be anticipated. Marijuana will not be detected in the blood or meconium.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
