Does Shingles Cause Sharp Pain In Back Radiating To Scapula And Right Chest?
hi, I have a 1-2 day history of sharp pain arising from my upper right back - around my right scapula and extending under my right arm to my right chest/pectoral muscles. The pain is worse with deep inhalation and when swallowing food. I am not struggling to breath. The discomfort has been progressive. It hurts to get up from sitting or moving in general. I have also had an intermittent headache - unusual for me. No fever or chills. My GP saw me today and thinks it may be shingles. She thought she could see a very faint rash on my upper right back. I m just worried because she didn t listen to my chest. Blood pressure normal. I m concerned about pulmonary embolism. No labored breathing but again, hurts a lot to inhale, sneezing/coughing are really painful too. The pain with swallowing scares me too. I did have chicken pox as a kid. I am now 50 years old. My doc prescribed valacyclovir which I have started. Anything I should do or watch for that would make you think shingles is not the issue? Thanks for your time and expertise.
