Does Menopause Cause Depression?

I am currently in menopause-I am 58 yrs old/ I have taken antidepressants since I was 30 years old. My depression has returned and I think it may possibly be due to menopause - do women usually experience depression during menopause and is there real help for it?

Dear lady,
Depression is very common during menopause. You change your life style, your body changes, your sexual urges and your self-image. You start missing your old self, and don't find it easy to accept this new period in life. At least, this happens subconsciously.
If this were your only problem, I would recommend you to find new hobbies and activities to get involved, find some reliable person to speak about it, and if the condition doesn't get better after 6 months, than you would need a specialist.
But your case is different. You already have a history of depression and this gets me worried. I would recommend you to go to a therapist and to keep taking the medicine that your GP or specialist has prescribed you. You will eventually get better, dear ma'am.
Wish you the best and wish you health!
